Blessing & The Curse

I recently had the opportunity to hear a sneak-peek of the debut album of Blessing & The Curse, a rock group based out of Austin, TX (also known as “the live-music capital of the world.”)

If you’re looking for new music to discover, you just may find a treasure in Blessing and the Curse, who offers a mix of catchy beats, intense lyrics, and melodic vocals. Theirs is a blend that pays homage to classic 70′s rock, the heavy passion of the 90′s and Texas blues, creating a modern day sound that becomes them-a blessing because the music makes you feel good, a curse because it leaves you hooked, wanting more.

Their EP album, “Just Like You,” takes listeners on a musical and thought-provoking journey starting with the raspy vocals of Choice and Consequence and the catchy, guitar-driven beats of the album’s namesake, Just Like You.

Like a siren’s spell, the melodics of Stay With Me Tonight (my favorite) seduces the ear until it crescendos into a full-out rock song, inspiring listeners to sing along and bust out the air-guitar.

In true southern hospitality, Blessing & the Curse offer up a serving of good old-fashioned comfort music: accessible and familiar. Yet, as all good hosts, they put their own spin to create a recipe that is uniquely their own. It’s in a subtle secret ingredient: a dramatic vocal, bluntly honest lyric, catchy guitar riff, or moving percussion.

Whatever it is, yes…And another helping please!

Dr. McSizzle

Posted by The Pisces Girl in Humor, Rants and Randomness on Friday Mar 25, 2011

Anybody who’s ever watched Grey’s Anatomy knows Dr. McDreamy and Dr. McSteamy, but yesterday I experienced my own episode of medical drama with my new dermatologist, Dr. McSizzle.

Okay, so the storyline was a little less steamy. I went in to have him look at a weird mole on my stomach (in true dramatics, I had pretty much already diagnosed myself with cancer) and while I was there, I figured he could blast off some nasty skin tags. Yeah, you heard me right, a weird mole and skin tags-we have doubled up on the sexy here.

*****

Rewinding just a bit, skin tags have always really grossed me out. When I was little, my grandma used to take me with her when she’d visit her sisters.

“Com’on, we’re going to tia’s!

Many grumbles later, I’d find myself embraced in a tight hug and standing face-to-face with a field of skin tags growing around my tia’s neck. Most of them were small, but there was always THE ONE. The huge one that made you just want to flick it.

Sportin’ the Sporty Stripes

Posted by The Pisces Girl in Fashion on Wednesday Mar 23, 2011

Stripes…they’re everywhere! And they seemed to have made an appearance in my closet as well. What can I say? I’m a sucker for a sporty, laid-back tee. This one with orange-pink stripes from Old Navy reminded me of a baseball jersey and I just haaaad to have it.

Paired with slouchy jeans, this outfit could easily read tom-boy. That’s why I made sure to add some special extras, like textured gold flats and a turquoise, mosaic necklace (gifted from Schwabs.) Of course, a pair of over-sized glamorous shades don’t hurt either. 8)

The Zumba Experiment

Posted by The Pisces Girl in Humor, Rants and Randomness on Monday Mar 21, 2011

Okay folks, riddle me this: What do you get when you take a handful of uncoordinated women, super loud club music, and one perky, rhythm-less instructor?…

Zumba, of course.

Today, I took my first stab at Zumba. I’m undecided as to whether I like it or not, but I’ve got 9 more classes to go, so I better get ready to parrrr-tay!rolleyes Here are a few things I learned today.

1) No matter how lady-like you THINK you are, you are guaranteed to find out exactly what your BO smells like. Everyone stunk something awful by the end of class. Zumba days may turn into 2-shower days…

2) From latin, to swing, to bollywood, to african dance, there are plenty of bad dancing moves to offend ALL ethnicities.

Closed-Minded for the Closed-Minded

Posted by The Pisces Girl in Rants and Randomness on Thursday Mar 17, 2011

You know what I’ve come to realize as of late? I don’t care much for atheists.

I’ve always thought that a person is free to believe what they want to believe, but these idiots-well, they just don’t believe in anything. How can I respect and listen to someone who stands so vehemently for nothing?

The sad thing is-that I’ve known atheists. I’ve been friends with a few of them and they are perfectly lovely people. Actually, every atheist I’ve ever met has been incredibly intelligent with a razor sharp wit. I’ve always enjoyed their company and good conversation. Until of course, they start spewing their scientific chatter at me. And they will. Because much like their arch-nemesis, the religious folk, they sure do love shoving their beliefs down your throat.

Ironically, it turns them into the exact type of people that they make fun of (soap-boxy and self-righteous) but whatever. I’m not going to be the one to point it out to them. Instead,  I turn a deaf ear and nod politely. All the while, my insides curdle  and I look for an excuse to make a quick escape. There is nothing like being cornered by an atheist hell-bent on a mission for conversion. Or understanding. Or acknowledgment that their ideas are legit.

7 Reasons Why Pisces Girls Are Sexy

Posted by The Pisces Girl in To Be A Pisces on Tuesday Mar 15, 2011

One of the more popular curiosities of the Pisces girl is her sex appeal. She’s got it, and many out there would like to know why.

Simple answer is she was born with it. Even Pisces girls who aren’t conventionally pretty have got that certain something to make heads turn.

Growing up, I’ve always been on the fluffier side, bigger than all of my friends and horribly insecure about it. Yet, despite having a bad case of the chubs, I’ve never been without admirers. Sure, they weren’t always the ones I wanted, but I had them anyways.

The first time I can distinctly remember a boy really taking a liking to me was in the first grade. I’ll never forget it. He came straight up to me, grinning ear to ear, and told me “I like your big forehead.” Like that was supposed to be a compliment! After that, I thought he was a jerk.  But he would continue to hound me until the fourth grade, when he eventually changed schools.

He was only the first of many who would vie for my affections, but I was so insecure I couldn’t really appreciate any of the attention for what it was. Luckily, I can now, and how it makes me look back and smile.

I think many Pisces girls can relate to this feeling. This understanding that she attracts, but most times, she is just as in awe of it as the observer. So, what gives?

Here are 7 reasons why I think Pisces girls have got sex-appeal:
