“You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them.” Maya Angelou
STILL I RISE
I recently came across the poem “Still I Rise” by Maya Angelou. Even though its roots lie in the Human Rights struggles of Dr. Martin Luther King, Maya Angelou herself and, many others…… she actually wrote it for all of us. The theme is about resilience, confidence, self-respect and your sense of self-esteem in overcoming anything in life. She wrote it for everyone – transcending race and gender –as a call to rise up against adversity- any adversity- and to honor “the nobleness of the human spirit…despite it all.”
